that about says it all, common guy becomes a war hero, then disenfranchised by the usual gubbamint booracrappys I'd like to know more about his stateside life before and after, make for a real interesting book.
This guy was in Nam in '65 and stepped on a mine. He woke up in the US Phillipines hospital paralyzed from waist down, and was told that he would not walk again. Transported to Ft Sam Houston for recovery, he forced hisself to learn to walk at night when he would slip out of bed, and using his elbows and chin, forced hisself to walk, and after 9 months, got his medical discharge. The doctor told him that he may be able to stand, but not walk. With immense pain, he walked out, gaining his release paper from the doctor. He moved to Ft Berry NC, and continued his recovery; he trained and began running upto 5 to10 miles a day, 50 to 100 pushups a day, and eventully jumped 3 times in 1 day.
He returned to the Nam in spring '68 - age 32.
Here's a link to his receiving the MoH award then his 20 minutes or so speech describing his life.
